With an objective to create a industry responsive workforce of around 200,000 people per year over the next five years in the state of Gujarat, the State Government has joined forces with 15 corporate groups along with some regional and Central Institutions such as National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).

This was revealed by the Director of Centre of Entrepreneurship Development, Mr. Chandan Chatterjee. The seven central institutions including NIFT, Gandhinagar and some regional institutes that have been designated as 'Anchor' will suggest the curriculum according to the industry requirements, he said.

These institutions will also provide training to the faculty for each of the seven identified priority sectors, which include textiles, apparels, chemicals, plastic and packaging, auto and engineering, gems and jewelry infrastructure.

The responsibility for skilled workforce in garments rests with NIFT and for the chemical industry is with LD Engineering College. Such measures by the department will facilitate creating a dedicated, specialized and skilled manpower as per the industry requirements, said Mr. B B Swain, State Industry Commissioner.
