Joint committee meeting on cotton & yarn prices

A joint committee meeting of the major Associations TEA, SIHMA, KNITcMA, DAT, TIF, Computer Embroidery Association (CEA), SIIMKA, The Knit Compactors Association and Tirupur Raising Association was held in Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA)office today (4.10.2010) to discuss the current scenario in cotton and yarn prices and take further course of action to protect whole garment sector.

After deliberations, it was decided to form a delegation and meet the Hon'ble Chief Minister and Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister through our District Minister Hon'ble Thiru.Vellakoil Saminathan and apprise the situation being faced by entire garment sector and also aftermath effect on the industry, since the 60% of textile industry is situated in our State, the export of cotton will affect our State seriously. We shall impress upon the Chief Minister that helping the textile industry, by differing the cotton export will help our State as a whole.

The joint committee had thanked the Hon'ble Chief Minister for sending a memorandum to central Government and added that because of this only, the cotton export has been postponed for one month. Considering the seriousness, the Hon'ble Chief Minister is requested to use his good offices with the Central Government to differ the cotton exports till 1st January 2011 atleast.

The joint committee has also requested the Hon'ble Union Minister of Textile Thiru.Dayanidhi Maran to use his good offices to postpone the cotton exports till 1st January 2011 atleast.
