Chinese cotton imports shoot up in August

In the month of August 2010, China's cotton imports registered 240,000 tons, a growth of 42 percent from the previous month.

The average import price stood at US $2,024 / ton, up 4.3 percent from the previous month.

Entering the new cotton marketing season in October, cotton prices have continued to rise, the spread between domestic and foreign cotton is narrowing.
