Waverley Woolen Mill is a 135-year-old factory based in Launceston in northern Tasmania. The factory had been hit by serious crisis several years ago, forcing it to downsize its workforce and undergo restructuring in 2004. Currently, the factory is undergoing an expansion process both within the country and abroad.
According to the company's chairman – Ken Davey, the company has been very popular in US for a significant period of time and, at present, several large retailers are showing their interest in it. He added that, this can lead to the generation of more employment opportunities in the factory.
Although the generation of employment depends upon demands in the retail market and the export market yet the chairman of the company expects that the employment opportunities will rise early next year.
