The Government of India will support Sri Lankan handicrafts industry to grow. The handicrafts industry is considered as one of the most important sectors in any country to be preserved and developed, said Mr. Ashok K. Kantha, Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka.
He stated this during his discussion at the National Crafts Council at the Battaramulla Janakala Kendraya, wherein he was invited by the Crafts Council Chairman, Buddhi Keerthisena.
He informed that in order to impart training to craftsmen of the country to organize bilateral handicrafts exhibitions under a joint venture and to improve the social status of craftsmen, the government of India will provide assistance.
Mr. Kantha also gave assurances to explore possibility to gain financial support to set up production villages under a Small Project Development Scheme.
