Increasing demand for carpets, rugs, kilims and Persian handicrafts in global market has proved US sanctions to be ineffective on Iran's hand-woven carpets.
In this regard, an expert commented that there are a number of US-engineered unilateral sanctions and a trend of different sanctions has been experienced by the Islamic Republic since its inception.
A fourth round of sanctions against financial and military sectors of Iran have been imposed by the UN Security Council, under US pressure. After this, its own unilateral measures have been imposed by the US and its allies, making allegations that Tehran is following a covert military program.
Exports of hand-woven carpets in first six months of the current Iranian year, which began on March 21, were valued at $500 million recording a growth of 49 percent against the corresponding period of last year.
During aforesaid period, the overall value of carpet export around the world stood at $1.3 billion, wherein Iran marked a more than one third global share.
