South Korean petrochemical company Honam Petrochemical Corp is currently analyzing the proposal to construct an ethylene plant in Indonesia in 2011. The company officials will visit Indonesia in order to carry out a detailed study before initiating the project.
According to the Indonesian Association of Aromatics, Olefin and Plastic Industries, the project is likely to have a capacity of 450,000 tons per year and is expected to have an estimated outlay of US $500 million.
PT Chandra Asri is the only manufacturer of ethylene in Indonesia and it has a yearly manufacturing capacity of 600,000 tons.
Honam Petrochemical Corp will have to depend on the import of naphtha, which is the raw material of ethylene, since the domestic producers are not in a position to supply sufficient amounts of this basic raw material.
