SS Slathia – the Minister for Industries and Commerce, has announced the setting up of four handicraft centres in Handwara. The main objective behind the establishment of these centres is to provide a well-planned and systematic training on market-driven crafts to the unemployed youth of the region. According to the Minister, the government is likely to increase the monthly stipends to Rs 500 from Rs 100 for those who are going to be trained in the centres.
A handicraft cluster centre for the promotion of Kani Shawl in the region has also been announced by the Minister. According to him, the government is focused on assessing the Kani Shawl sector. A project has also been sent, in this regard, to the Central government for financial support. He also mentioned about the 10-day long industrial expo which is going to be organized. In order to make the setting up of income generating units easy, the Minister requested the entrepreneurs as well as the artisans to get their names registered.
