Entrepreneurs have requested the government to organize a survey to find out the accurate figure of cotton production in order to have a comprehensive picture of cotton production in Pakistan. So far, the textile industry has been operating without any genuine data on cotton production in Pakistan.
Once the genuine data on cotton production is made available, it would be easy to find out the exact amount of cotton that is likely to be available for the purpose of exports, after the cotton requirements of the domestic industry are fulfilled. Without the exact production figures, cotton exports are likely to lead to grave crisis in the domestic textile industry.
The textile sector of the country is facing several challenges due to shortage of gas, frequent power-cuts, high expenditure incurred on manufacturing and on acquiring loans from banks. These challenges have led to the rise in cotton prices in the country. Pakistan has to export yarn and value-added cotton products for its long-term benefit.
