Northeast Thailand is known for its fine silk weaving. The Thai Textile Society will visit a few villages from 27th to 29th November 2010. Close to Cambodia, the Surin silks reflect the influence of the neighboring country.
To preserve the high standard in silk weaving, the government established a weaving center in the village of Ban Thasawang with Arjarn Weeratham Trakulngernthai as director and teacher.
Weavers from several other Surin villages have been brought together where they explore new and complex techniques in silk weaving. They have now looms operated by two and four weavers at a time. Another w ell-known village near Surin is Khwao Sinarin where mee hol is woven, typical for the region. We'll also visit Baa n Kum Pan weaving village in Ubon, and a few artistic sites.
