Apparel exporters throughout India got a shock as the textile mills increased the prices of cotton yarn by Rs 7 per kg for all counts on 26th October, 2010. Earlier, the cotton yarn prices had been raised on 20th October, 2010.
The price of cotton 20s count yarn has increased from Rs 184 per kg to Rs 191 per kg, 24s count has gone up to Rs 199 per kg from Rs 192 per kg, 30s count to Rs 211 per kg, 34s to Rs 218 and 40s count yarn prices to Rs 225 per kg from Rs 218 per kg. This is the third time when the yarn prices have increased within a period of a month.
In June 2010, the price of 40s combed hosiery yarn was quoted at Rs 185 per kg. Currently, it is priced at Rs 225 per kg. Within a period of four months there has been an increase of Rs 40 per kg in the 40s combed hosiery yarn price. The price of count 30s has gone up from Rs 171 per kg which was recorded in June, 2010 to Rs 211 per kg, at present.
