Within operations, he wishes for more flexibility and agility in manufacturing, running plants efficiently at optimal capacities; optimizing use of IT to track supply chain and reduce costs. He recommended investments in equipment and technology for creating value-added and fashion denims and development of low cost “indigenous” equipment and thereby replace expensive imported equipment for improving denim business profitability.
He advised management of cotton procurement; locally and internationally, understand and learn how to hedge cotton in domestic and international commodity exchange and developing specialized cottons; organic or colored.
Within the foreign exchange domain, he called for better management and hedging and a cover to protect margins. With regards to distribution, he called for creating a more effective distribution system, to ensure faster domestic as well as global deliveries. Among others, he recommended employing sustainable methods of production and that capacity expansion should be 'steady' vs. 'step – jumps', with an eye on consistent profitability.
He concluded by saying optimistically saying that, “I am sure that the Indian denim sector will grow and be a significant global player by 2020.
