Handicrafts have poor market in Fiji

Inhabitants of the Rabi Island in Fiji don't seem to be very much keen on buying handicraft work; therefore marketing these products has become a real challenge for the women's association.

Ladies trying to sell products like tapa, mats, jewellery prepared from nuts and shells and other conventional Banaban clothes need to exert hard to sell their items in Viti Levu.

Further, these women with their limited means of earning are not in a condition to bear the transportation cost so that they can travel to Savusavu or Labasa, and market their products there.

Tui Tai Cruises are the only places where the products are marketed in this island. Majority of the visitors on these Cruises are Americans and they are interested in purchasing these handicraft items. This greatly helps the women's association on the island.

Thus, as handicraft items are not much in demand on the island, the women producing these items need to be very much aware of the demand as well as market for their products and produce items while keeping the same in view, or else over production may lead to wastage of resources.
