At its AGM on Tuesday 23rd November, members of the Council of Textile and Fashion Industries of Australia P/L (TFIA) Executive appointed Mr Michel Abeysekera as their new President.
Abeysekera is CEO of LM Australasia, a major pioneer in seamless garment technology. With a strong commitment to innovation LM currently supplies high end fashion retailers across the globe, including department stores, national chains, mass merchants and specialty stores.
In accepting the position Michel thanked the retiring President Jim Liaskos, Managing Partner United Bonded Fabrics P/L for his outstanding commitment and foresight in steering the TFIA through a challenging two years for the Textile Clothing and Footwear (TCF) industry.
TFIA CEO Jo Kellock reiterated:
“The Presidents role is a voluntary position and the industry relies on the good will of committed individuals for their support. We owe Jim a great deal of thanks especially given the demands on his time in a challenging economic environment. His strategic advice and breadth of industry knowledge was invaluable.”
Kellock went on to say that she looked forward however to working with the new TFIA President.
“We have a big year ahead of us with lots of exciting projects for the industry.”
Abeysekera says he is keen to raise the TFIA profile, strengthen its membership base and expand the TFIA's international relationships.
