October export of ethylene reflects rising trend

Official records from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) reveal that ethylene exports from Japan climbed 45 percent to touch 51,220 tons in the month of October from that of the previous month, showing a growth in the production of ethylene.

According to METI, ethylene production in Japan increased 14 percent in October. But exports of ethylene showed a decline of 26 percent from the export figure of October 2009, as per the data.

Based on the data provided by METI, it was found that exports of ethylene glycol (EG) rose by 15 percent to touch 12,876 tons on a month-on-month basis, whereas it dropped by 3.2 percent on a year-on-year basis.

Exports of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) resin went up by 15 percent to reach 13,948 tons on a month-on-month basis. It also showed a rise of 7.9 percent from the export figures, a year ago.

On one hand, exports of low density polyethylene (LDPE) registered a rise of 4.4 percent to reach 21,777 tons on a month-on-month basis and showed a decline of 9.1 percent, from a year ago and on the other hand, exports of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) decreased by 4.4 percent to 20,777 tons on a month-on-month basis. It registered a drop of 2.5 percent, from the figures a year ago, as per the official data of METI.
