It is for the first time since May this year that the country's cotton fabric imports have recovered to touch the 30 million sq meters level, as the imports for the month of October grew by 10.6 percent over the previous year to reach 30,024,000 sq meters.

The country's cotton fabric imports from China, the biggest exporter to the country grew by 6.4 percent to 22,211,000 sq meters. Meanwhile, exports from Indonesia registered a sharp rise of 16 percent to 3,351,000 sq meters and in spite of its low volume, the country is slowly raising its share in the Japanese cotton fabric market.

Moreover, imports of polyester/cotton blended fabrics too increased 86.5 percent to 9,318,000 sq meters. Thus, owing to the hike in cotton fabric prices following the increase in cotton and cotton yarn prices, there are chances that manufacturers may use polyester/cotton fabrics in place of costly cotton fabrics.
