Several artisans from all over the country are now in Hubli in Karnataka to be a part of the 12-day long handicraft fair that started on December 9, 2010.
A variety of items ranging from handicrafts, terracotta saris, textile products, kasuti work, ready to wear clothes and decorative items prepared in various parts of India are all being displayed and traded at the fair.
The national-level fair of cotton industries, Shalmala Saras has been organized by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department.
The fair is a unique event where the visitors will get to see a complete range of products representing rural India, all under a single roof. Cotton industry products prepared by the women of self-help groups are also being displayed here.
The event is aimed at providing recognition for the rural artisans, while extending them a platform where they can sell their products without any interference from the third-party.
14 States including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh are participating in the fair, for which more than 300 stalls have been arranged.
