Mr. Raj Kumar Malhotra, Chairman, EPCH, stated that the system of export award has played a very important role in promotion of exports of handicrafts and achieving excellence. The export awards were instituted by the Council in 1989 with the sole objective of recognizing the efforts and contribution made by exporters in achieving excellence in export performance.

The other objective was to encourage, motivate and inspire other exporters to strive hard to achieve excellence in export performance so that they may also become eligible for such export awards, he added.

Five types of awards will be given to the exporters of handicrafts. The top Export Award Trophy is given on the basis of highest export performance of all items of Handicrafts category. There will be awards for 22 classified categories which also include top export award, award for misc. crafts and woman entrepreneurs. In addition five regional awards will also be given. The woman entrepreneur award is given to a company which is either led by a woman or is wholly-owned and directed by women said Mr. Malhotra.

Further, five Life Time Achievement Awards will also be given to the leading handicrafts exporters for outstanding contribution to the promotion of Handicrafts exports over the years, EPCH Chairman added.

Merit Certificates will also be given to those who stand second in the export performance in each category.
