EPCH to honor 53 companies with Export Awards tomorrow

Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) is organizing 17th Export Award Function tomorrow (December 22, 2010) in which 53 exporters will be honored with trophies, awards and merit certificates for outstanding performance during the year 2008-09.

The awards will be presented by Union Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran at a colourful ceremony in which Minister of State for Textiles Smt. Panabaaka Lakshmi, Smt. Rita Menon, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles and Mr. R. N. Choubey, Development Commissioner (Handlooms) will also grace the occasion.

Mr. Raj Kumar Malhotra, Chairman, EPCH, stated that the system of export award has played a very important role in promotion of exports of handicrafts and achieving excellence. The export awards were instituted by the Council in 1989 with the sole objective of recognizing the efforts and contribution made by exporters in achieving excellence in export performance.

The other objective was to encourage, motivate and inspire other exporters to strive hard to achieve excellence in export performance so that they may also become eligible for such export awards, he added.

Five types of awards will be given to the exporters of handicrafts. The top Export Award Trophy is given on the basis of highest export performance of all items of Handicrafts category. There will be awards for 22 classified categories which also include top export award, award for misc. crafts and woman entrepreneurs. In addition five regional awards will also be given. The woman entrepreneur award is given to a company which is either led by a woman or is wholly-owned and directed by women said Mr. Malhotra.

Further, five Life Time Achievement Awards will also be given to the leading handicrafts exporters for outstanding contribution to the promotion of Handicrafts exports over the years, EPCH Chairman added.

Merit Certificates will also be given to those who stand second in the export performance in each category.

A total of 53 companies will get the trophies, awards and merit certificates. The top export award for the year 2008-09 on all India bases will be presented to M/s Designco of Mordabad.
