Textile-clothing sector registers growth in exports

A rise has been recorded in the exports of Tunisia's textile-clothing sector during the January to November period this year. The sector's exports for the period totalled to 4544 million dinars (MD), which is 6.52 percent higher than the exports registered during the corresponding period last year.

As revealed by a report released by the Technical Textile Centre CETTEX, the textile exports grew by 20.7 percent to touch 608 MD during the period under preview and clothing exports too registered a rise of 4.62 percent and stood at 3936 MD.

The report indicates a marginal increase in the exports to country's leading export markets. Exports to France grew by 2.2 percent to reach 1537 MD, while that to Italy rose by 6.6 percent to 1424 MD.

Further, as far as the sector's imports are concerned, they too registered a rise of 11.82 percent to grow to 3226.82 MD in 2010 from 2009 levels. The textile imports registered a rise of 13.27 percent to touch 2554.27 MD, whereas the clothing imports too jumped by 6.65 percent to 672.58 MD.

Also, as indicated by the report there has been a rise in the imports from all the supplying countries, like imports from France rose by two percent, that from Italy by 4.7 percent, Germany by 17.2 percent, Turkey by 24.2 percent, China by 37.1 percent and Portugal by 43.9 percent.
