International Textile Machinery Exhibition (ITME) society which had earlier planned to set up a convention centre in Sanand, near Ahmedabad, will now set up the same along with a five-star hotel at Gujarat International Finance Tech (GIFT) city in Gandhinagar.

An agreement was recently signed between ITME and GIFT in this regard. Earlier in 2009, ITME had signed a memorandum of understanding (Mou) during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investers' Summit 2009, to set up the convention centre at Sanand.

India ITME does not have its own convention centre and the one that is being planned, will be its first in India.

Speaking to fibre2fashion, Mr Rajnibhai Bachkaniwala, Chairman, India ITME, revealed, “We have announced two years back that we would be opening an exhibition centre in Ahmedabad and we had already gone ahead with the project, as we already had a piece of land available.

“However, when GIFT approached us, we found that location to be better with the entire infrastructure that they are going to provide. The convention centre will come up over an area of 60,000 square metres while the exhibition centre will come up over an area of 15,000 square metres and the project will cost around Rs 3 billion”, he added by saying.
