Biggest home textile plant coming up in Ishwardi EPZ

Sunman Group, a diversified company involved in the production of various items ranging right from clothing to beverage, recently revealed that it is establishing the country's biggest home textile plant so as to cash on the new opportunities that it has explored in the four billion worth of bed-sheet and curtain market of the EU.

The Group has allocated a sum of eight billion taka for setting up the high-tech facility at the Ishwardi export processing zone, Chief Executive Officer of the Group CEO, Shafiqur Rahman informed.

He further revealed that, they have purchased 57 plots in the Ishwardi EPZ which constitutes one third of the total area of the EPZ. About 70 percent of the civil work in respect of the new plant has been completed and is scheduled to start its operations by mid of 2012, he added.

The new plant would have a capacity to churn out 100,000 yards of bed sheet and curtains per day, which would earn it the recognition of being the biggest home textile production plant of the country.

In the month of December last year the EU, the second largest clothing market throughout the world, liberalised its import rules and granted all the Bangladeshi textile products with 30 percent value addition a duty free access to all its nations.

Initially, the manufacturers in Bangladesh were required to produce products with at least 60 percent value addition to earn a duty free access to the highly productive market.

The official said that, though the EU market remains to be their key focus, but then they would be even exporting their products to other markets like Japan, US and Australia.

The new plant would produce different types of home textile under same roof. It would produce yarn from raw cotton brought in from other countries, and would then weave this yarn to manufacture fabrics like cushion covers, decorative pillows, bed sheets and curtains.
