According to the report of the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA), on the whole 1,07,60,252 bales of cotton had arrived during the period from January 1 to 15, this year. This amount is 9,76,630 bales less than the amount that was received last year, reflecting a drop of 22.09 percent in the cotton output, which may be because of the attack of pests on cotton crop or the damage caused by the devastating floods that had hit the country last year.

As per the report, of the total 1200 ginneries, only 946 are currently functioning in Sindh and Punjab. Out of these, 731 ginning factories are operational in Punjab and 215 in Sindh. The devastating floods had adversely affected the cotton crop in the districts of Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Muzaffargarh, Layyah and Rahimyar Khan Multan.

This time Punjab had supplied 71,39,612 bales of cotton whereas last time it had contributed 81,16,242 bales, registering a drop of 12.03 percent. Sindh had contributed 36,20,640 bales in comparison to last year's 41,23,717 bales of cotton, reflecting a fall of 12.20 percent. Balochistan had contributed 24,118 bales of cotton to the overall cotton arrivals.
