Foundation to target Middle East for batik & songket promotion

The Terengganu Entrepreneur Development Foundation, which proposes to popularize the Terengganu batik and songket fabrics all across the world, is eyeing the Middle East for promotion of the same now after Europe.

A top official of the Foundation, while speaking after the inauguration ceremony of a seminar on the marketing of Terengganu batik and songket in Europe, said that a team which visited England, Italy and Spain, last year for promotion of batik and songket, had met with positive response.

Many famous persons, associated with the garment industry with whom the team meet while they visited different cities last year, have shown their interest in using songket and batik in their products.

The official said that the State Government has been persuading the promotion of these products in foreign markets and added that it would next focus on Middle East countries.

The one-day seminar was organized to impart information to the songket and batik entrepreneurs regarding the scope of these products in various countries.
