The textile industry in El Salvador registered a growth of 32 percent in 2010 as against 2009. The industry also claims that its production levels have recovered and it is towards the path of further improvement.

The textile and apparel sector has recovered from the grip of global financial crisis. The sector has regained its lost vigor and is once again attracting investments.

The Chamber of the Textile, Clothing and Free Zones in El Salvador (CAMTEX) has estimated a growth of 12 percent for this year. The major challenge confronting the textile industry is to boost the competitiveness of the sector and to finalize the new Free Zones Act.

According to Patricia Figueroa, Executive Director of CAMTEX, the industry with its existing plants has obtained several new contracts.

The textile industry is also involved in market promotion activities and has a huge potential for generating employment. The textile and clothing sector alone constitutes 13 percent of the total private sector jobs in the country.
