Veeral Desai receiving environmental award
Winning the award in the category of medium scale enterprises for 'quality & environmental protection' and receiving such a wonderful appreciation that too from our Chief Minister, Shri Narendra Modi in the presence of industry bigwigs and corporate CEO's was just like a dream come true”, said the overwhelmed and dynamic director of Zenitex Pvt Ltd - Veeral Desai.

Zenitex, a Surat-based fabric textile processing company had been given the award in the field of quality and environment conservation from amongst the category of medium scale enterprises by the Gujarat Government at the hands of none other than the Chief Minister, Shri Narendra Modi at the recently concluded Vibrant Gujarat Summit – 2011. Veeral Desai received the award on behalf of Zenitex.

Zenitex Pvt Ltd was set up in January 2003 for dyeing of art silk fabrics/cloth and has a capacity to process 30,000 meters/day. It has also installed a windmill for captive power generation and has workers strength of around 200. Zenitex believes in the philosophy that “a business which makes only money is not good business”. It has also been putting many efforts in environment protection and safety of workers and the surroundings, apart from which they are involved in social work.

From amongst the activities of Zenitex which contribute to sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) are; the pioneer and leader in tree plantation in its industrial estate; leading the rehabilitation of jobless diamond workers during the 2008-09 recession. More than 1,100 diamond workers were counseled and provided training at Zenitex with full salary and not stipend and also placed in other textile industries.

Zenitex has also undertaken a major campaign against tobacco addiction in the industrial belts of Surat; organized a 'Bikers Rally' on the eve of 'World No Tobacco Day – 2009'; is the only textile company participating in a mega-rally organized by Bharat Cancer Hospital against tobacco addiction on May 31, 2009 and giving the workers paid leave; organized a free cancer check up camp under Gujarat government project 'Sanjeevani Rath' in Sachin village in which 600 people were screened and more than 3,500 workers from surrounding industries and villages participated in the awareness and quit tobacco and alcohol programme.

Speaking exclusively to fibre2fashion, Veeral Desai added by saying, “This can happen only in Gujarat that a small industrialist from Surat gets the award without any influence or introduction to the bureaucracy or the cabinet ministers. I was amazed by the kind of appreciation and priority given to me and all awardees and to the opportunity provided for us to be at par with big guns of industries, ministers and other delegates who were present there”.

When asked as to what helped Zenitex bag this award and its philosophy on sustainability, he replied by saying, “Zenitex believes in the unique philosophy that 'A business thatmakes nothing but money is poor business'. All the species on earth have the right to unpolluted air, water and soil in order to maintain the health of the ecosystem. Green environment also enhances productivity and quality.
