Industry analysts point out that ethylene prices have increased to over US $1300/ ton now from more than US $800/ ton last year.
Ethylene, as a basic chemical raw material, is widely used in home appliances, automobiles, IT and other industries.
Due to greater increase of demand, ethylene capacity is in short supply. Companies in China such as Sinopec and PetroChina have launched several large-scale ethylene projects in recent years.
Polyethylene and polypropylene prices increased by about 15 percent in 2010. Industry experts predicted earlier that apparent domestic consumption of ethylene would increase about 13 percent in 2011.
Therefore, experts opine that ethylene prices will continue to rise this year.
