Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company, during the initial 10 months of the current Iranian financial year starting March 21, 2010, exported 1.811 million tons of several petrochemical products worth one billion dollars to 23 European and Asian countries.
This is indicative of a rise of 35 percent and 67 percent in volume and value respectively, as compared to corresponding period of 2009.
Benzene, ethylene, benzene, poly ethylene and propylene were the main items that were exported to the countries including, Saudi Arabia, UK, Spain, France, Armenia, Italy, the Netherlands, India, Singapore, Belgium, Qatar, Taiwan, China, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Syria, Turkey, Iraq, Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Afghanistan.
Next to Saudi Arabia's production of 58 million tons per annum, Iran is the second largest producer of petrochemical products in the region, while Qatar follows with 11 million tons.
The petrochemical industry has occupied a key position in Iran's non-oil economy and is also foundation of the economic diversification of the country.
