Electrolux tumble dryer loves wool

A-class tumble dryer from Electrolux is the first ever tumble dryer to meet the exacting standards set by the Woolmark Apparel Care-Gold Specification. Innovative drying technology now offers kind, effective care for this well-loved natural, renewable fibre.

“Electrolux is at the forefront of innovation when it comes to technology for home laundering of wool apparel products,” says Woolmark's Jimmy Jackson. “The technology built into Electrolux's new class A tumble dryer, enables wool garments to be safely machine dried without the occurrence of shrinkage, distortion, or disruption of garment surface.”

The Woolmark Apparel Care Gold logo is used on machines to indicate that the Woolmark Approved cycle for “hand wash only” garments will not cause shrinkage due to felting, nor will there be any damage to the surface of those fabrics.

“The secret to achieving these requirements lies in the new inverter motor we use,” explains Nick Fox, Product Marketing Director at Electrolux. “It provides drum speed control that keeps wool garments absolutely still on the drum surface while the air gently filters through the fabrics.”

Currently, these machines are available for retail sale in markets in Europe.

The Woolmark logo is owned by The Woolmark Company, a subsidiary of Australian Wool Innovation Limited, the not-for-profit research, development and marketing organisation owned by Australian woolgrowers. As an authority on the natural fibre, The Woolmark Company upholds wool fabric quality standards through its testing and certification system. The Woolmark Apparel Care program for the approval of wool washing and drying cycles has been developed for use by manufacturers of washing machines and dryers.

The Woolmark Apparel Care program extends beyond appliances to include washing products such as detergent. It brings to consumers, the heritage of care from the woolgrower right through to the care of the garment.
