Recently, Shanxi Hongte Coal Chemical Industry Ltd. invested one billion Yuan into a project to produce coal bitumen-based carbon fiber, located in Jiaocheng Economic Development Zone.

The 5,000 tons per annum carbon fiber project is expected to put into operation in July this year. After commissioning and operation, the project is expected to realize an annual output value of 1.5 billion Yuan.

This project is expected to end the long history of China's imports of coal pitch-based carbon fiber, and break the monopoly of foreign enterprises.

Carbon fiber is used in golf clubs, tennis rackets and fishing rods in sports equipment, photography tripod, wind turbine blades, rocket shield and missile transmitter.

The use of carbon fiber material in the world's most advanced Airbus A380 aircraft has reached 52 percent.

Until now, China did not have the wherewithal to produce coal pitch-based carbon fiber, but had to rely on imports, which was very expensive.

In recent years, Shanxi Hongte put huge human and financial resources to research and develop pitch-based carbon fiber with help from domestic research institutions. The project achieved success in just one year's time.
