“Demand for man-made fibres (MMF) will escalate in the near future, as prices of cotton continue to rise steeply”, said Mr Vinod Ladia, Chairman – Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Export Promotional Council (SRTEPC).
The current demand for MMF is around 70,000 tons per month in India, which is likely to touch 100,000 tons per month in next two years, he added by saying.
“There may not be a significant shift from cotton to MMF, but increase in demand may lead to setting up of more MMF production capacities”, he informed.
Since the new cotton season began, prices of the white gold have more than doubled from the same time of the previous year.
This has enthused the textile industry to switch to man-made fibres or blend them with cotton in order to reduce cost of production.
India produces man-made fibres totaling to around 800,000 tons per year
