This year Innov_ex, taking place in Lancaster University Management School, over a day and a half, on 12th -13th April, will feature a workshop series based on emerging technologies (from fibres to e-commerce to sports performance).

We are delighted to announce that Vanessa Knowles of Pebble International joined the Innov_ex team on January 1 2011. Vanessa, with her strong connections in textiles, sustainability and the outdoors industry is working with us to deepen the appeal of the conference by linking us with new high profile speakers, advising us on the conference design and exploring opportunities to widen our sponsorship.

For many years Vanessa has worked with The Textile Institute, editing their quarterly periodical Textiles and as Chair of the Institutes Sustainability Special Interest Group. She also works with the European Outdoor Group and is a member of their Sustainability Working Group.

She has already secured support from The Textile Institute (TI) which will be helping us raise awareness of the conference among TI members and contribute to the development of the new Emerging Technologies section of the event.

Mary Rose, co-organiser of Innov-ex, commented 'We are delighted to have the support of the TI which embraces textiles, clothing and footwear and is a key international textile organisation which recently celebrated its centenary. Veronica Legg, the 2010 Innov_ex Design Prize winner also received the TI Young Person's Award in 2010.'

The sustainability theme of last year continues strongly with a conference programme supported by Forum for the Future and designed specifically to help small companies (and featuring small company examples) get started on 'the sustainability journey'. Speakers will help to place sustainability in its broader context, including what is happening on sustainability more broadly at Nike and Marks and Spencer, and the UK's governmental sustainability initiatives with a presentation from WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme); the University of Leeds will also take a closer look at product design for sustainability.
