Outstanding growth in textile exports between July-Feb

As per available data for the first eight months of the current fiscal year (July 2010 to February 2011), Pakistan's exports of textile products recorded a considerable growth rate during the period.

Exports of textiles increased 28.67 percent according to published by the Federal Bureau of Statistics.

During July 2010 to February 2011, textiles exports stood at US $8.637 billion against $6.708 billion in the same period last year.

Raw cotton, cotton yarn and cotton fabrics recorded positive growth rate of 12.97 percent, 45.30 percent and 33 percent respectively. Other textile materials' export increased by 39.58 percent.

In other segments too, the growth rate was considerably high. Shipments of cotton (carded or combed) increased by 18.93 percent, yarn (other that cotton yarn) export recorded 15.36 percent growth rate.

In other products, exports of knitwear increased 26.63 percent while exports of bedwear, towels and readymade garments increased 16.68 percent, 6.40 percent and 33.67 percent respectively.

Art, silk and synthetic textile exports increased 64.17 percent and made-up articles by 18.63 percent.

While most of the products witnessed positive growth rate, products with negative growth rate were tents, canvas and tarpaulin with a 38.26 percent decline.
