Workshop to address post GI initiatives for Gujarat textile products

Shri R.M. Shankar, Principal Scientific Officer, Ahmedabad Textiles Industry's Research Organisation (ATIRA), Ahmedabad and Shri T.K. Rout, Market Research Officer, Textiles Committee will deliberate and debate on the issues relating to Post GI Initiatives and how Geographical Indication Registration of unique products could be converted into tangible benefits for the artisans and other stakeholders.
It may be noted that the Textiles Committee, Government of India is working for the development of the textiles and clothing sector of the country. One of the initiatives taken up by the organisation during the recent years is the “Intellectual Property Right (IPR) Protection of unique textile products through Geographical Indication (GI) Act, 1999”.
As of today, the Textiles Committee has facilitated GI registration of 25 textile products out of 65 applications in textiles filed so far before the Office of the Registrar General, Geographical Indication Registry, Chennai. It also includes five unique products of Gujarat.
