Sluggishness of the Ghanaian cotton industry caused the country to lose around $625 million last year, Kwesi Ahwoi, Minister of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) said.
The cotton industry in the country is the largest source of income and employment generation, he said and added that, the country has a capacity to churn out 250,000 tons of lint cotton in medium term.
Further, the Minister regretted the setback suffered by the cotton industry during last few years and said that, discontent, distressing experiences and wasted labour encountered by farmers, would be a story of the past.
The Minister said that, the Government not only feels sorry for the farmers who suffered financial losses due to low production, but is determined to re-establish the lost smiles on the faces of the farmers.
