He stated that, the Board would initiate special schemes to create job opportunities for the traditional rural artisans by reviving the cooperative bodies. The Board intends to provide bank loans to 59,000 rural people in keeping with the 5,917 projects under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme.

He revealed that the O&KVIB extended loans to the extent of Rs. 402.8 million through cooperative societies for establishment of village industries, to the traditional artisans in rural areas.

The Board proposes to build a high-rise building at its office site under the PPP mode, and has requested the State Government to grant approval for the same. The new building is proposed to be established as a business centre for khadi, village industries and handicraft items, he added.

The official stated that, the Board has submitted a letter to the State Government, whereby it has requested the government to write off the unpaid loans of the defunct co-operative societies, so as to help the revival of the artisan cooperative societies to aid generation of self-employment opportunities.
