Genencor, a division of Danisco A/S, announced that it has completed its textile portfolio transformation by adding new products to its family of enzymes, providing textile mills and garment laundries with a full suite of enzyme solutions. Genencor enzymes improve the efficiency in the pre-treatment processes and biofinishing of fabrics and allow garment laundries to finish in line with the latest fashion trends.

“The textiles industry moves quickly and is dependent on ever more efficient and cost effective solutions,” said Scott Brix, Global Marketing Director, Industrial Biosolutions, for Genencor. “Our new textile portfolio reflects our ability to recognize these market realities. Also, we offer a product range called PrimaGreen that includes enzymatic bleaching, with benefits such as significant savings of water and energy. Several brands and large retailers are already enjoying a sustainability gain as a result.”

One of the newest products, PrimaGreen EcoScour, offers sustainability advantages for eco-scouring in cotton pretreatment, including 30 percent water savings and 60 percent energy savings compared to standard processing. In addition, the mild processing conditions result in improved fabric quality and enhanced color brightness after dyeing.

Further, Genencor offers textile and garment processors Optisize COOL & NEXT amylases for desizing of woven fabrics at all possible conditions. And a full range of Primafast cellulases allow biofinishing of knitted fabrics, while preserving the natural cotton quality and comfort. Primafast GOLD is the neutral pH and 'gold standard' fabric depilling solution that can also be combined with dyeing, resulting in water and time savings.

IndiAge cellulase has been the standard in low-temperature enzymatic denim stonewashing in garment laundries for many years. Now, Genencor offers IndiAge NeutraFlex adding a neutral pH feature, resulting in highest contrast and lowest backstaining as demanded by the denim brands. Additionally, stonewashing can be combined with enzymatic fading and bleaching of dyes using PrimaGreen EcoFade and EcoLight enzyme technologies.

“The designer now has the tools to take one base denim fabric and create multiple looks. This has the potential to save money and development time,” said Chuck Stewart, president of Tumbling Colors who consults major jeans brands around the world.

With the new portfolio in place, Genencor continues to push the boundaries in textile innovation and garment production by investigating process integration and applying new finishing effects. Working closely with formulators, mills, laundries and brands, allows Genencor to build new cost-effective concepts that meet their requirements and will ultimately allow consumers to choose more sustainable apparel products.
