Ethiopia, in the initial nine months of the current 2010-11 fiscal year achieved $40.1 million in textile exports, which is almost $25.5 million more than $14.6 million earned during corresponding period of last budget year 2009-10, a year on year rise of 175 percent.
This is reflective of the unprecedented growth achieved by the country in textile exports, over previous years.
With exports rising by around four percent to $7.5 million in the ninth month, over the previous month, the industry attained the annual target of $8.2 million to the extent of 91.3 percent.
All in all 13 factories contributed to textile items export, with clothing units contributing $16.5 million, yarn and sewing thread $5.2 million, textiles $15.4 million and hand woven items $3 million.
Kombolcha Textile Factory SC, Ayka Addis Textile and Investment Group, Adama Spinning Factory, Ma Textile and Garment Factory Plc, Almeda Textile Factory SC and the Turkish Textile Factory contributed the largest chunk of textile items which were exported to over 23 countries across the globe.
