The President of Taiwan, Ma Ying-jeou announced that the government will not support construction of the controversial Kuokuang petrochemical complex.

A task force of the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA) had announced earlier that, it recommended the government to either out rightly stop the project or approve it with conditions.

However, the President did not specify whether the government will move the project to another location in Taiwan or abroad or totally abolish it.

The Kuokuang project has been covered in a controversy, due to strong opposition from environmentalists and from residents of the central Taiwan county of Changhua, where the project was proposed to be built.
