The factories in the textile cluster of Mahalla in Egypt have shut shop, after the government failed to find a solution to the issue of shortage in yarn supply.
Over 550 textile factories pulled down their shutters in protest. They have demanded a ban on yarn exports and removing customs duty on import of yarn in the current year.
According to the owners of the textile factories, it had become impossible to run their businesses, due to the shortage of raw materials and consequent hike in their prices.
