Gujarat provides Rs 100 rebate on Bt cotton seed packet

Narendra Modi, Chief Minister of Gujarat, while inaugurating a farm fair in North Gujarat, announced a Rs. 100 rebate on every packet of 450 gms of Bt cotton seeds.
This rebate would be available on standard seeds that the Gujarat State Seeds Corporation (GSSC) sells.
Modi has instructed the concerned authorities to ensure that pure seeds are provided to the farmers without any difficulty and in time, but this is subject to stipulation that no farmer can get more than two packets of seeds at subsidized prices.
Prior to this, on April 25, 2011, the Gujarat Government sanctioned a hike in prices of genetically modified (Bt), Bollgard-I and Bollgard-II varieties of cotton seed, whereby the prices of these seeds for the forthcoming kharif season were hiked by around 25 percent on an average.
BG-I prices were raised from Rs. 650 per packet to Rs. 830 per packet, while those of BG-II were increased from Rs 750 per packet to Rs 930 per packet.
