Tunisian textile exports & imports surge in April

Technical Textiles Center (CETTEX), Tunisia, has released its May 2011 economic letter which says textile and clothing trade showed positive trend in April 2011 compared to the previous month.
The textile and clothing sector showed a growth of 17.68 percent for exports totaling to 495 million dinars. Similarly, imports grew by 25.03 percent in value, or 389 million dinars, and 8.35 percent by volume.
This is the third successive monthly growth in exports posted by textile and clothing industry following the recovery recorded after delivery delays accumulated during the month of January 2011.
During January-April 2011, the major countries to which Tunisia exported were the United Kingdom (+32.7%), Germany (+23.6%), the Netherlands (+21.9%), Spain (+18.7%), Belgium (+8.0%), Italy (+5.1%) and France (+2.7%).
The major countries from which Tunisia imported during the same period were Turkey (43.4%), Portugal (+20.6%), Germany (+17.9%), China (+13.4%) and Italy (+3.4%).
The Publication also mentions Germany as a privileged partner of Tunisia in textile and clothing sector as the country has 84 units providing 13,666 jobs doing business with Germany.
