The Silghat-based Assam Cooperative Jute Mills Limited is working towards ISO 14001: 2004 certificate for Environment Management System (EMS), the mill management has said.
The EMS certification would be a big achievement for the mill which was once closed down due to losses. The mill has not looked back since it was reopened as per the Assam Accord under which the employees of the mill benefited.
The mill has not only been making profits, but was awarded 'A' grade among the State-owned public enterprises in 2010. The Naba Ratna status awarded to the company by the State government and the ISO 9001: 2008 certification awarded by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) speak volumes about the products and profits of the company.
Recently, the mill has undertaken a Rs. 35 million project for bleaching, dyeing and lamination of cloth. The self-financed project is expected to generate around 200 new jobs.
