The turnover target for J&K Handicraft Corporation for the current fiscal year has been fixed at Rs. 140 million by Minister for Industries and Commerce SS Slathia.
The Minister, while speaking at a review meeting of Jammu & Kashmir Handicrafts (Sales & Export) Corporation Limited stressed on the need to diversify the marketing strategy so as to provide necessary impetus for the growth of domestic sales and exports of handicrafts.
He insisted on engaging the Tour and Travel Industry for marketing of J&K handicraft products and said that services of registered Tourist Guides and accredited Travel and Tour Operators need to be hired to lure the tourists to buy world renowned Kashmiri Handicrafts.
He further stressed on generating awareness amongst the tourists about the intricate designing and rich heritage value of Kashmiri Handicrafts and other art works. He urged to devise special schemes to offer discount on bulk sale of particular handicrafts.
He demanded devising of a comprehensive and practical action plan to boost and expand the Corporations' working so as to make it self-reliant. Also, he called upon the Corporation's management to introduce online sale system for handicrafts. He stressed on the creation of a website to ensure inter-linkage between all the outlets of the Corporation throughout the country.
Mr. SA Tak, Managing Director of the Corporation informed that all the 19 branches of the Corporation have been computerized. He said that in order to exhibit and promote the traditional handicrafts, the State organized 12 expositions/trade fairs both within and outside the State.
He revealed that the work in respect of the Corporation's Baba Kharak Singh Marg, New Delhi based showroom has been completed and is expected to improve the sales and profit figures of the Corporation.
