NITMA urges Punjab CM to hold back power hike decision
May '17
The Northern Indian Textile Mills' Association (NITMA) has urged the chief minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh to hold back Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission's (PSERC) decision of increasing power tariff for the peak load hours for industrial category consumers. This order would make power costlier by 78 paise, said NITMA.

The industry in Punjab was very optimistic that the effective measures would be taken to boost the industrial sector which has already been in deep crisis due to high power tariff, said Rajiv Garg, president, NITMA, in a statement.

The industry was expecting an early implementation of policy in the state to supply power to industrial sector at Rs 5 per unit as was announced on April 17, 2017 by the Punjab government.

During an interaction with Apex Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Punjab) at Ludhiana on May 25, 2017, the CMD of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) Sh. A. Venu Prasad indicated that the PSPCL is in the process of putting a system in place for supply of power to the industrial sector at Rs 5 per unit as promised by CM Singh, added NITMA.

The association also said that the Time of Day (TOD) tariff comprising of normal tariff minus Re 1 per KVA from 10:00 P.M. to 6:00 A.M. next day (8 hours) has also been withdrawn. (KD)
