Pakistan's APTPMA concerned over hydrogen peroxide shortage

Pakistani textile processors, one of the major consumers of hydrogen peroxide (HP), have expressed serious concern over its artificial price hike and shortage in the market. According to the All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA), local HP manufacturers have abruptly reduced its supply, creating panic among member units.

This hasty step appears to have been taken at the behest of local manufacturers in gross contravention of the universally acclaimed norms of monopoly and cartels and is likely to have repercussions on the economy, according to a report in a Pakistani newspaper.

Shortage of HP will adversely affect the export of textile fabrics and garments, deprive the country of valuable foreign exchange and make thousands of workers jobless, said APTPMA central chairman Saleem Parekh.

APTPMA chief Saleem Parekh has sought permission from the ministry of commerce to import HP for industrial use on zero rated duty basis till the time local supply is back to normal. (DS)
