Textile-Kontakt, a leading retail and industrial group in Ukraine, has begun production of fabric at its new unit in Chernihiv. Currently the production is in testing phase and the manufacturing unit is expected to reach its full capacity of 200,000 metres of fabric a month by April this year. The annual capacity of the plant will be 2-3 million metres.

Last year the group invested about 53 million Ukrainian hryvnia (UAH) ($1.96 million) in the production site, and the company plans to increase this investment to 100 million UAH ($3.7 million) this year, the company said on its website.

Italian machinery has been installed in the factory that will produce 100 per cent cotton fabrics including twill, bleached calico and printed cotton and blended raincoat fabric ‘Greta’. The fabrics will be exported to EU countries, particularly Germany and France.

Founded in 1995 by Oleksandr Sokolovsky, Textile-Kontakt group has interests in several areas including wholesale and retail trade; import of fabrics, accessories and home textiles; as well as tailoring of special clothing, including military uniforms. (RKS)
