Category-wise, exports of knitted and crocheted clothing and accessories (HS chapter 61) earned $4.2 billion during the six-month period, showing a decline of 5.8 per cent, as against exports of $4.456 billion during the same period of 2016.
Exports of non-knitted apparel and accessories (HS chapter 62) were valued at $2.955 billion, down 6.6 per cent from $3.165 billion exports made in the comparable period of 2016.
Meanwhile, exports of carpets, mats and tapestries were up 4.7 per cent to $1.013 billion during the period under review, while exports of cotton, cotton yarn and cotton textiles, decreased by 0.6 per cent year-on-year to $866.088 million.
On the other hand, imports of cotton, cotton yarn and cotton textiles grew 8.2 per cent to $1.491 billion during the six-month period. Man-made filament imports dropped 1.1 per cent to $1.124 billion, whereas man-made fibre imports rose 2.9 per cent to $1.022 billion. (RKS)
