Silk gets a new colour as the country has developed new technology to rule the world silk market.
This first of its kind technology would help produce natural colour silk yarn without any dyes.
Indian silk industry, facing onslaught of Chinese silk, will get a breather due to adoption of this new technology to tap new global market, says Central Silk Board (CSB).
To overcome the problems caused by synthetic dyes, the scientists, Dr Sankar Dandin and Dr Kanika Trivedy of Central Sericulture Research and Training Institute (CSRTI) have developed a new technology, which can produce natural colour cocoon eggs.
Colour silkworm developed from such eggs spin colour cocoons, where from colour silk yarn, fibre, thread and fabric can be produced, Silk Board sources said.
