The Australian Wool Exchange (AWEX) has recently been quoted stating that it needs an extra $970,000 per annum to operate a quality assurance pro-gram.
WAFarmers has been opposed to AWEX forcing producers to pay for the scheme which would see producers who do not use the National Ven-dor Declaration forms when selling wool, forced to pay for the minority that do. WAFarmers is calling on AWEX to show evidence that it has the right to increase the price of labels to fund the scheme.
WAFarmers was founded in 1912 when the Farmers and Settlers' Association formed and merged with the pre-existing Wheatgrowers Association. The Western Australian Farmers Federation (Inc) (WAFarmers) is the largest and most influential agricultural lobby group in Western Australia. The organisation has maintained its advocacy strength over its 100-year history and now represents more than 4,000 members across the Western Australian agricultural region.
