IG Metall : 4.5% more wages for textile & clothing industry

IG Metall said that the industrial union demands a 4.5 percent rise for approximately 130,000 workers of the textile and the clothing industry in West Germany.
"The increase in output of the the textile and clothing industry justifies the demand after a significant improvement in income," said the second chairman of the industrial union metal, Berthold Huber, on Monday in Frankfurt.
For the training of the industry workers, the industrial union demanded of 40 euro per month per worker.
Huber said a plus 4.1 percent hike in the year 2005 is not much burdensome to enterprises as they had performed well in terms of overall economic average.
Clothing industry has put up one of the best sales result in the past several years in 2005 to register profits in its enterprises' history.
Despite the difficult international competition the domestic textile and the clothing industry of West Germany has been able to maintain ground.
Export portion continuously grew in the year 2005 to 8.3 billion euro, a 38 percent of the gross income of the industry.
The collective bargaining for the industry begins during April 22-30 in Darmstadt, sources say.
IG Metall (German Metalworkers' Federation) was founded in 1914, and it has turned out to be the largest single trade union in Germany.
